I picked up a navy slip dress from J. Crew last year and I’ve been having so much fun styling it season after season. At first, I totally overlooked the piece. It seemed insignificant and boring, but I was so wrong. Living in New York City means you will come in contact with all types of weather (we had a snow squall this week??). A slip dress is the key to an outfit formula that will have you ready for any weather and season AND will get you out the door in minutes. Here are three ways I have styled my dress along with other inspiration I found on IG and a few shopping options in case you are in the market for a slip dress.
The first way I wore it was with my favorite puff sleeve top underneath. This dress is not particularly fitted so I added a belt bag to accentuate my waist and for a fun pop of color.
Next, instead of layering underneath, I layered over the dress. This is a button down that I knotted together at the bottom. Again, this accentuated my figure a bit more and provided sleeves on a cooler day.
Finally, I added a turtleneck underneath, a jacket, booties and tights. Because the fabric of the slip dress is so light, it is so easy to pile on the layers until peak coziness is reached.
