I recently was introduced to Rakuten (previously known as Ebates) through a friend. Little did I know, this is one of the easiest ways to earn cash back while you shop. I know it may seem too good to be true, so I’ve broken it all down below.
What is Rakuten?
Rakuten offers cash back, deals and shopping rewards on the world’s largest selection of products and services. Chances are you’ll get rewarded for a purchase you were planning on making anyways! It is one of the most commonly used cash back sites and becoming a member is completely free. To date, there are 12 million members in the U.S. and they have earned over $1 billion in cash back.
Stores pay Rakuten a commission for sending you their way, and Rakuten shares the commission with you as cash back. You are paid every three months, plus you can earn a cash bonus when you join and shop.

The easiest way to use Rakuten is when shopping online, but it’s also possible to earn rewards in-store as well. In addition to earning cash back, Rakuten also finds online coupons and promo codes you can try out to earn additional discounts.
I use the Rakuten Cash Back Button so I never miss out on cash back. The free browser extension is available for Chrome or Firefox. If you’re on a retailer’s website that offers cash back, the extension will display a button notifying you.
