This is the #1 question I’m asked in regard to Dirty White Sneakers –
What is it like being photographed in New York City?
The short answer: I struggle with it. The long answer………see below 🙂
Putting yourself out in the public eye is not easy, virtually or physically, at least for me. When I first started DWS, I was out the door at 6:30am in order to avoid as many people as possible. The below pictures were taken at my very first photo shoot for the blog. It makes me laugh because even though it was INCREDIBLY cold that day, I insisted my photographer (God bless her) and I find a secluded spot where no one could see us.
Fast forward a year, it is definitely easier but I still have my moments!
These are the 4 things I tell myself when I start to get nervous or uncomfortable while being photographed in public (especially in NYC).
1.) I am never going to see these people again.
Strangers staring can be intimidating but 9 out of 10 times people don’t care AT ALL or are just genuinely curious. It’s easy to go down the rabbit hole and wonder “Omg what are they thinking?” but don’t go there. Would it matter anyway?
2.) Nothing good comes easily.
If I want a photo, I need to stand in front of the camera and be uncomfortable for a minute or two. But every time I do it, the next time becomes a bit more comfortable.
3.) This is what I enjoy.
Fashion, creating outfits, taking photos, writing for the blog, this is all part of the process. Enjoy it, even the growing pains. Last but certainly not least –
4.) No photographer, no photos.
Don’t let the photographer get run over!! Looking forward to more NYC photo shoots soon <3
